Trump comes for D.C.

What’s in his latest executive order

Ever since President Donald Trump took office earlier this year, many people have nervously asked: How long until he brings the hammer down on local D.C.? That hammer seems to have come on Thursday in the form of an executive order focusing on crime, immigration, and homelessness in the city. While the order could raise concerns around what ramped up immigration enforcement will look like in the District, it largely restates things that D.C. is already doing – trying to hire more cops, clearing homeless encampments, and more aggressively pursuing fare evaders on Metro. But it also seems to prompt questions about Mayor Muriel Bowser's careful rapprochement with Trump – the order creates a task force to oversee D.C.'s work on crime and homelessness, but includes no local officials on it. We've got all the details in our story on Trump's executive order.
