Every Thursday, we list some ways to get engaged in the city โ€“ whether thatโ€™s protesting, organizing with your neighbors, or testifying before your councilmembers. This isn't an exhaustive list; share your events and trainings with us using this form. For more ways to get connected, check out our resources roundup.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 4

Occupation safety training
It's clear the federal police presence in D.C. may not let up anytime soon. Join Harriet's Wildest Dreams for a basic training on how to protect yourself and one another. It'll take place over Zoom from 7 - 8:30 p.m.

Refuse, Resist, Rebuild: A town hall on non-cooperation
Free DC, DC for Palestine, Boycott Target DMV coalition, and other local movement groups are holding a joint meeting on local boycotts, and how to transfer this solidarity to the polls and streets. The event will take place at John Wesley AME Zion Church from 6 - 9 p.m. Food and childcare will be provided, as well as ASL and Spanish interpretation.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 5

Work!(place rights) info session and party
Part information sharing and part celebration of queer workers, the group First Shift Justice Project will give a presentation on worker resources like Paid Family Medical Leave (as in, who and what this covers). Then, there will be drag performances to celebrate queer workers. It'll take place at As You Are at 7 p.m.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 6

Stop the Trump Takeover Rally
Free DC, Unite Here Local 25, CASA, and other local groups will be gathering for a rally and march to demand the immediate withdrawal of federal police in D.C. and to end the takeover of MPD. Meet in Malcolm X Park at 11 a.m.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 7

Occupied D.C.: A teach-in
This teach-in will cover the status of the federal takeover right now, a history of how we got here, and how D.C. residents can step up. It's hosted by the Anti-Criminalization Collection D.C., and co-sponsored by Stop Terror Police Project D.C., Ward 1 Mutual Aid, and several other local groups. It'll take place in the MLK Jr. Library and over Zoom, from 2 - 4 p.m. Snacks provided and masking encouraged.

Evergreen organizing skills 101
Learn the basics of coalition building with a training from the local Sunrise Movement chapter. The course will cover the skills and techniques needed to have difficult and structured organizing conversations one on one. It'll take place from 2 - 3:45 p.m. over Zoom.

MONDAY, SEPT. 8

Harriets Wildest Dreams x FREE DC Juror Information Project
The two local organizing groups will be hosting a teach-in at MLK Library on how we can harness our power as jurors to protect our neighbors. Attendees will hear from legal experts, activists, and their fellow community members about how they can step up next time they get a summons in the mail. The event is free and open to all. It'll run from 6 - 7:30 p.m.
