Paying senators a visit: Your weekly Civics Roundup
Lobby for D.C. on Capitol Hill, attend a workshop on economic justice, and more.

Every Thursday, we list some ways to get engaged in the city — whether that’s protesting, organizing with your neighbors, or testifying before your councilmembers. This isn't an exhaustive list; share your events and trainings with us using this form. For more ways to get connected, check out our resources roundup.
ONGOING
Film DC
As you've probably seen on your feed (and as Martin reported), D.C. residents are recording everything during this takeover. Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network, Free DC, and Harriet's Wildest Dreams created a new hub where residents can submit information about sightings or interactions with police and ICE. Email photos, videos, and tips to report@filmthepolice.org. If you witness an ICE detention or raid, call the Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid network at 202-335-1183.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 25
Street Sense Media art show and fundraiser
During the federal takeover, our friends at Street Sense Media have been doggedly covering the Trump administration's continued targeting of D.C.'s unhoused residents. Stop by their art show at metrobar to browse goods from Street Sense vendors and other local artists, enjoy a live performance, and eat some food. Proceeds go toward Street Sense's publication, workshops, vendor services, and case management program. The event will run from 6 - 9 p.m. You can snag a ticket here.
Courtwatch DC training
Organized by Harriet's Wildest Dreams, DC Justice Lab, and D.C.'s Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee, this virtual training from 7 - 9 p.m. will teach you how to spot miscarriages of justice during court proceedings. Register here.
Roundtable on the movement for economic justice in the DMV
Hosted by Mother's Outreach, the DC Fiscal Policy Institute, and other D.C. organizations dedicated to economic justice, this webinar will focus on how to address local need amid growing resistance to guaranteed income and direct cash programs. There will be presentations about direct cash pilot programs and breakout sessions where you'll collaborate with and learn from other attendees. You can register for the event here. It'll run from 5 - 6:30 p.m.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 26
Know your rights webinar
The Amica Center for Immigrant Rights (formerly the CAIR Coalition) is leading weekly seminars to teach residents how to advocate and protect themselves during interactions with federal law enforcement. Lawyers from local nonprofits will join to share their insights and answer questions. It'll be held on Zoom at 6 p.m. Register here.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 27
Eat the rich: A workshop for abolitionists
This workshop with Harriet's Wildest Dreams will focus on organizing against economic inequality — its causes, its consequences, and how you can help fight for a better future. The training will run from 1 - 5 p.m. RSVP here for the address.
River Terrace Park cleanup
Join Free DC's Ward 7 team and the River Terrace Community Organization for a morning cleanup of River Terrace. Just bring yourself — all supplies provided. Meet at 10 a.m. at Varick Memorical AME Zion Church. (This event counts for DCPS community service hours!) RSVP here.
Free DC open house: Ward 3 kickoff party
Curious to learn more about Free DC's work? Stop by their party in Ward 3 to connect with members of the team and other neighbors over food, drinks, music, and activities for both kids and adults. It'll run from 1 - 3 p.m. at St. Columbia's Episcopal Church.
MONDAY, SEPT. 29
D.C. Community Lobby Day
If Congress wants to act like they run D.C., then they should be answerable to its citizens! Join Free DC in letting Senate members know what you think of the occupation, the 13 bills targeting Home Rule, and the 20+ budget riders that would freeze local funds. The team will be meeting at 9 a.m. at the Hart Senate Office Building to encourage elected officials to stand with D.C. You can RSVP here.
