May Day solidarity: Your weekly Civics Roundup
How to support workers around D.C. this weekend

Every Thursday, we list some ways to get engaged in the city β whether thatβs protesting, organizing with your neighbors, or testifying before your councilmembers. This isn't an exhaustive list; share your events and trainings with us using this form. For more ways to get connected, check out our resources roundup.
ONGOING
Share your thoughts on Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway improvements
The National Park Service is currently developing a safety improvement plan for Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway β and they want your feedback. The plan would end rush hour reversible lanes along the parkway (!) and widen the multi-use trail between P Street and Virginia Avenue NW. It would also install a roadway barrier to improve safety between P Street and Virginia Avenue NW. You can submit your thoughts on the plan here until May 2.
Solidarity City
On Sunday, April 20, multiple D.C.-based organizations (Code Pink, D.C. for Palestine, FREE DC, and Metro DC DSA, among others) kicked off a month-long organizing effort in Columbus Circle. There will be skills-based sessions, political education trainings, resource exchanges for displaced workers, and mass assemblies. You can see a full schedule of events here.
THURSDAY, MAY 1
May Day solidarity rally with D.C. restaurant workers
Join UNITE HERE Local 25, which represents hotel and restaurant workers across the D.C. region, for a rally against Musk, Trump, and the billionaire broligarchs. The rally will take place at Freedom Plaza from 5 - 8 p.m.
FRIDAY, MAY 2
Last day of DC Climate Week
The final day of DC Climate Week will focus on urban development and mobility, with sessions in Congress Heights and Navy Yard. Take a mobility tour to reimagine transit, or sit in on a session about e-bikes. You can see Friday's full schedule of events here.
SATURDAY, MAY 3

Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation for a discussion on tariffs, deportations, and ways to empower U.S. workers. The talk will take place at the Justice Center DC (617 Florida Avenue NW) at 1 p.m.

Held in honor of International Workers Day, their spring concert will feature folk artist Joe Jenks and the local social justice women's group SongRise DC. Tickets are required; the event is a fundraiser, with proceeds going to the chorus. It'll take place from 3 - 5 p.m. at Luther Place Memorial Church.
Living with Drones: A live journalism show
"Living with Drones" is a live journalism production that compiles diaries and testimonials from Gaza, soundscapes, and live performance to show the impacts of drone warfare. It originally premiered in London, and will be showing at the Sitar Arts Center in D.C., with support from the Museum for Palestinian People. Tickets are required at pay-what-you-can rate from $25-35. The show will run on Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
