Street law and taxing the rich: Your weekly Civics Roundup
Plus, ways to mark Juneteenth.

Every Thursday, we list some ways to get engaged in the city β whether thatβs protesting, organizing with your neighbors, or testifying before your councilmembers. This isn't an exhaustive list; share your events and trainings with us using this form. For more ways to get connected, check out our resources roundup.
THURSDAY, JUNE 19
Juneteenth events
Head to the Anacostia Community Museum for a free, day-long celebration with yoga, music, double-dutch, and food trucks (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.). ONE DC will also be celebrating all day with a community festival at the Black Workers & Wellness Center (11 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Bread for the City is celebrating Black liberation with a block party at its Southeast location, featuring food, music, and education sessions (1 p.m.). And for more events, resources, and to see how your D.C. native neighbors are marking the day, keep an eye out for our latest Ask A D.C. Native Column!
SATURDAY, JUNE 21
Street Law 101
Black Lives Matter, Stop Police Terror Project DC, and Malcolm X Grassroots Movement will be hosting a workshop to educate D.C. residents of their rights on paper β and how these actually play out in the street. Attendees will learn practical tips on resisting police violence and building a support network in their communities. It'll run from 12 - 2 p.m. at the Black Workers and Wellness Center.
MONDAY, JUNE 23
Tax the Rich, House the District rally
As the Housing Committee meets to mark-up Bowser's 2026 budget, organizers with the Fair Budget Coalition and several other local groups will be gathering outside the Wilson Building to push for more funding in D.C.'s housing and social safety net programs. (You can catch up on the state of D.C.'s housing market with Martin's explainer!) They'll rally from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25
Union organizing workshop
Join federal employee union AFGE for a mini-workshop and an evening of phone-banking. Attendees will learn skills on member-to-member organizing, before phone-banking to help AFGE members switch to e-dues. The event is open to everyone, union members or not. It'll take place at the AFGE headquarters at 80 F Street NW from 6 - 8 p.m. Pizza will be provided.
FREE DC Orientation
You've probably seen us listing a lot of FREE DC events in our roundups; this is your chance to join the group! They'll be holding an online orientation for new members. You'll learn what the movement is all about and how you can play your part. It'll run from 7 - 8:30 p.m.
