11 ways to volunteer around D.C. this week
And other ways to get involved — like shaping the future of a new trail, learning about the history of Pride, and voting in the primary election!
The polls are open. Here’s everything you need to know.
Hey neighbors,
The campaign signs, ads, and mailers have reached a fever pitch, but the end is in sight. Early voting started yesterday and runs through this Sunday, June 14. And Election Day is just around the corner, on Tuesday, June 16.
Do you have a voting plan? Still have questions about the candidates or how ranked-choice voting works? Our voter guide explains how and when you can vote, breaks down all the races on the ballot, and links to our stories from this campaign season.
We think it’s all quite comprehensive and useful — but you don’t have to take our word for it. Recently, 51st member Elissa Y. wrote in to say:
“I was overwhelmed at the number of races and candidates when I opened my ballot, but your coverage is not only thorough and easy to understand, but also highly well organized, a reader wrote in. Your Voter Guide article that lists all the races, gives high-level summaries of the candidates and links to all your other related coverage has been priceless for me as I wade through all my voting options and make decisions.”
The election isn’t over yet, and our team is still planning a few more stories before Tuesday. Stay tuned!
Help us have eyes on all eight wards this election! Tag us at @51stnews (or @51st.news on Bluesky) if you post about what you’re seeing around the city on Election Day! We want to see what you’re experiencing, and we love to see you out there participating in our city’s democracy.
Happy voting!
